Polymer is used on face for softer feel, so even provide different hardness defined as Rockwell hardness. Another benefit is to move weight from face.

Putting is  the one of the most used /  important club in the  bag  accounts  almost  half  the stroke played. Putter is  what  is used  last  to  finish  off  every  hole.  Every  person  is  different  with  their  physical  build, skilllevel, playing conditions and preferences.

Quality Control

Just  as  any  other  industries , golf  clubs  have  their   tolerances   standard.  Some  OEM have  tighter   while  others  have  larger.  As  standard  duration  to  make  clubs  will  take approximately4 or more weeks, therefore, there inventory is a must for any golf OEM. So it always  wise  to  make  try  out  the  clubs before you  purchase  them,  as  even  the same setup or spec setting will fall in different  categories. That is why to get fitted is so important.

Putter design came hand-made,  now with the advanced of technology, most of the putters are designed from CAD(Computer-aided Design ) into forging tool, or cast mold; followed by CAM if milling is involved and carefully assembled according to spec.

Casted

Milling  is  considered  the best way to control the quality of the  shape  than  polishing. Some makers  only  milled  the  face with  casted  body.  Look for 100%  it usually means that it is either forged or from block.

No mold needed, designed can make anything shape out of the block.

Grain have uniform direction with the originalroll.

Forging process is the strongest of them all, with all the grain aligned

direction to the intended design. Normally, feedback is more pure and  

forged putters are generally more expensive and feel better.

Stainless SteelMost common is 303, 304 and 304L. We normally see the putter labeled as SS in abbreviation. There benefits to have SS, is first the feel and second the  putter are bendable.

17-4 are also popular due to its common use in the market. Most of 17-4 heads are casted.

Carbon Steel

Most common is S20C, S22C and S25C. We normally see the putter labeled as S followed by C with the percentage (%) of carbon in the middle.

Aluminum

One of the lightest materials, very easy to machine, increase room for weight distribution and design.

One of the best strength to weight materials, optimum material for golf clubs, due its light weight and superb feel. Unfortunate Titanium is very expensive and difficult to mill.

Tungsten is used for weight purposes due to its high density. Used a lot to better distribute of peripheral weight and increase MOI.

For putter, welding  hosel is a fast way forcompany to change different hosel type within the same model, it saves cost and time compared to milling an entire new putter. However, welding of the material around hosel will be  heat-effected.
